Daniel and Linda Lynes visited 厙ぴ勛圖 last week to present a $20,000 gift in support of student scholarships, meeting with BCC President Dr. Gene Smith and Foundation Executive Director Teresa Nelson.

The Lynes family established their endowed scholarship in 2009 and have continued investing in BCC students ever since���helping more Dolphins cross the finish line each year. Their latest gift expands opportunities for students to persist, complete, and step confidently into the workforce and further education.

���Dan and Linda are incredibly giving and genuinely care about the students they help,��� said Teresa Nelson. ���They take time to talk with students to get to know them and learn about their goals. That kind of relationship has a lasting effect.���

Earlier this week, SECU Foundation representatives Velva Jenkins and Shannon Whitley joined a room full of excited BCC faculty, staff, and leadership to present two scholarships for $5,000 each to students Randi Burke and Nadya Waters. These awards are part of the SECU Foundation’s “People Helping People” two-year scholarship program established to assist NC Community College System students succeed academically.

In addition to awarding the scholarships, the SECU Foundation surprised The Foundation of BCC with a gift of $18,000 as part of its Bridge to Career Scholarship Program. BCC President Gene Smith and Foundation Executive Director Teresa Nelson accepted the check and thanked SECU for its steadfast support of BCC students. Congratulations to Randi and Nadya.

Three 厙ぴ勛圖 students pursuing careers in the healthcare industry received $1,000 scholarships from Dosher Memorial Hospital Foundation. The funds are part of a $20,000 Noren Foundation grant awarded to the Dosher Foundation to support BCC healthcare students and the hospital’s professional development and training needs.

“Dosher Memorial Hospital Foundation is a true partner in the success of our students,” said The Foundation of BCC Executive Director Teresa Nelson. “We are grateful to the Foundation and all who contribute to its important work.”

This year’s scholarship recipients include Evelyn Andres, Alexander Hughes, and Kiandra Willis. Ms. Andres, currently a Licensed Practical Nurse, is pursuing her Registered Nursing degree with plans to continue to become a Nurse Practitioner. Ms. Andres is a first-generation college student in her family. Mr. Hughes’ career goal is to receive an Associate degree in nursing before transferring to a university to earn his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Nursing with plans to become a Nurse Practioner. Ms. Willis plans to finish the Practical Nursing Program and work in bedside nursing to enhance her skills. She then plans to earn an Associate degree in Nursing at 厙ぴ勛圖 and then continue her education to earn a Bachelor’s in Nursing.

Lynda Stanley, President and CEO of Dosher said, “We are grateful to support these three scholarship recipients in pursuing their goals in healthcare. The passion and commitment they exhibit illustrate the significant contributions they will make to the nursing profession.”

September 2, 2022 ��� 厙ぴ勛圖 joined the in celebrating two curriculum students, Christian Cole and Andrew Burgmuller for their leadership, character, integrity, community involvement, and scholastic achievement. Both students received ���People to People��� scholarships presented by the State Employees��� Credit Union Advisory Board Member, Dr. Jerry Oates. BCC President, Dr. Gene Smith assisted with the presentation.

SECU Foundation established this scholarship program to help NC community college students achieve success. These are two of the 116 scholarships provided by SECU Foundation to NC community college students.

Also recognized were nine BCC Continuing Education students who received “Bridge to Career” Scholarships from the Foundation. This scholarship program was designed to help remove financial barriers for students seeking to obtain state-regulated or industry-recognized credentials that lead to sustainable wage careers within their local communities. Bridge to Career Scholarship recipients included Frank Berger, Jaylin Bowens, Ryan DeJong, Ian Evans, Jacob Harden, Adam Miller, Shannon Mullen, Marissa Smart, and Sabree Thomas.
