厙ぴ勛圖 officially dedicated the Dan and Linda Lynes Health Sciences Center during a special ribbon cutting ceremony held on campus on May 19. More than 100 family members, friends, community leaders, faculty, staff, and supporters gathered to celebrate the Lynes familys longtime commitment to student success and healthcare education at BCC.

The ceremony featured remarks from BCC President Dr. Gene Smith, Dan and Linda Lynes, and former nursing student and Lynes Scholarship recipient Dr. Katie Caison. Guests also enjoyed a reception, facility tours, and demonstrations inside the Health Sciences Center.

Although the facility has served students for several years, the ceremony formally recognized the Lynes familys lasting generosity and impact on 厙ぴ勛圖.

A building dedication is far more than placing a name on a structure, said Dr. Smith. It is about recognizing a legacy of generosity, vision, and belief in education that has changed lives and strengthened our community for generations to come.

Dan and Linda Lynes have supported BCC for more than a decade through scholarships, mentorship, and investments that help students pursue healthcare careers and other workforce pathways.

We are incredibly honored by this recognition, said Linda Lynes. We believe education changes lives, and supporting students at BCC has been one of the most rewarding experiences of our lives.

Today, the Dan and Linda Lynes Health Sciences Center houses programs preparing students for careers in Registered Nursing, Practical Nursing, Dental Assisting, Clinical Medical Assisting, Phlebotomy, and other healthcare professions. The facility includes classrooms, simulation labs, and hands-on learning environments that prepare graduates to serve healthcare organizations throughout Brunswick County and beyond.

A Legacy of Support and Generosity

On Tuesday, January 28th, 厙ぴ勛圖 (BCC) came together to celebrate and honor a family whose generosity has touched countless lives. The newly dedicated KTJ Food Pantry, located in Building E, now stands as a lasting tribute to Katie Juda and the Juda familys unwavering commitment to supporting BCCs Brunswick Interagency Program (BIP) students.

For over a decade, Wes, Diane, and Katie Juda have been a cornerstone of support for students facing challenges, providing critical aid in areas like food security, utility bills, clothing, and emergency needs. Their efforts have consistently lifted students during difficult times, leaving a lasting impact that goes far beyond the walls of the College.

A Beacon of Hope on Campus

The KTJ Food Pantry ensures that every BIP student has access to essential food resourcesboth on campus and at home. More than just a resource, the pantry represents hope, stability, and compassion for students navigating personal challenges. By removing the burden of food insecurity, the pantry allows students to focus on their education and personal growth, embodying BCCs mission to foster success and well-being.

Reflecting on the significance of this dedication, Teresa Nelson, Executive Director of the Foundation of BCC, shared heartfelt words: The Juda family has exemplified what it means to make a difference. Their dedication to supporting students in need reflects the values we uphold at BCC, and we are proud to recognize their contributions through the KTJ Food Pantry.

Extending Their Reach Beyond the Pantry

The Juda familys contributions go well beyond the food pantry. Their passion for community service includes supporting initiatives like supported employment, community engagement, and the Special Olympics. Thanks to their advocacy, BCC and Brunswick County have become more inclusive and supportive spaces where students with diverse abilities can thrive.

About the Brunswick Interagency Program (BIP)

BIP is a nationally recognized program dedicated to helping adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities integrate into campus life, achieve independence, and transition successfully into the workforce. The program provides a range of essential services, including Adult Basic Education, Employment Resources, the BIP Greenhouse and Gift Shop, and Transportation.

With its foundation built on purpose, support, friendship, and respect, BIP strives to empower students to reach their fullest potential. The KTJ Food Pantry is a perfect extension of this mission, ensuring students feel supported and valued every step of the way.

As BCC continues to prioritize student success and well-being, the KTJ Food Pantry stands as a powerful reminder of how one familys generosity can make a world of difference. Thanks to the Juda family, BIP students can pursue their dreams with fewer obstacles and greater hope for the future.

Foundation Executive Director and employee volunteers staffing the Relief Drive for Western NC

厙ぴ勛圖 (BCC) is proud to announce the success of its recent, week-long Relief Drive, made possible through the combined efforts of the college family and the surrounding community. In response to the devastation caused by PTC No. 8 and Hurricane Helene, one and a half truckloads of essential supplies were delivered to Brunswick Family Assistance for local distribution and to Blue Ridge Community College (BRCC) to support those hardest hit in western North Carolina.

The relief effort, launched in the wake of back-to-back storms, was aimed at addressing the urgent needs of communities struggling to recover. In addition to the physical donations, BCC raised $6,000 in monetary contributions. These funds are being used to purchase much-needed cold-weather items such as blankets, sleeping bags, coats, gloves, and hats for both adults and children.

“This drive demonstrates our BCC family’s and local community’s compassion and generosity,” said BCC President Dr. Gene Smith. We’re incredibly proud of what has been accomplished together. Our contributions, both locally through Brunswick Family Assistance and across the state with the help of our friends at Blue Ridge Community College, will help provide essential support to those who need it most.”

厙ぴ勛圖 is committed to continuing to support the broader community and working to bring relief to those impacted by this historic storm. In addition, donations to the college’s two Food Pantries, which serve students and employees in need, are always welcome. For additional information on how to help, please contact The Foundation of BCC Executive Director Teresa Nelson at (910) 755-7320 or nelsont@brunswickcc.edu.

The Foundation of 厙ぴ勛圖 (BCC) is honored to announce the establishment of a new $25,000 endowment by Mr. Jan Vlach in memory of his beloved aunt, Dr. Loretta T. Zderad, a distinguished nurse educator and resident of Shallotte, NC.

Born in Chicago in 1925, Dr. Zderad devoted her life to advancing the field of nursing. She began her career with a Diploma in Nursing from St. Bernard’s Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago. She then earned a Baccalaureate Degree from Loyola University, a Master’s in Psychiatric Nursing from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and Master’s and Ph.D. in Philosophy from Georgetown University.

Dr. Zderad’s passion for education led her to teach at prestigious institutions, including the Illinois Neuropsychiatric Institute, Catholic University, Boston University, and Ohio State University. During her tenure at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Northport, NY, she rose to the position of Associate Chief of the Nursing Service for Education.

In 1976, Dr. Zderad co-authored Humanistic Nursing alongside Dr. Josephine Paterson, a groundbreaking text (translated into Spanish and Japanese) for international nursing education. She also shared her expertise globally, traveling to China in 1983 to lead a professional seminar.

Following her retirement in 1995, Dr. Zderad relocated to Shallotte, NC, where she developed meaningful friendships, traveled, and expressed her creativity through painting. She was well known in the community for her quiet demeanor, caring heart, and generous spirit, supporting numerous local organizations. Dr. Zderad’s contributions to nursing and her community leave a lasting legacy.

The endowment established by Mr. Vlach will provide enduring support for BCCs nursing students, reflecting Dr. Zderad’s lifelong dedication to education and service. “We are incredibly grateful for this generous gift from Mr. Vlach in memory of Dr. Zderad,” said Teresa Nelson, Executive Director of The Foundation of BCC. “Her legacy of compassionate care and commitment to education will continue to inspire future generations of healthcare professionals at BCC.”
